Oh, the LULZ!

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 30, 2009, 10:24 AM
Deviant Art has officially lost its mind.

I just got a note informing me that my latest deviation - [link] - was reported by some brain-dead imbecile deviant as "containing mature content" and "needing a tag".

Because OMFG, for the love of everything that's sacred, you can see skin in the drawing! SKIN!! Aaaaa! Would someone please think of the children! :omfg:

No, you can't really see a vagina, and she's kinda covering herself, leaving only about 1/2 of her boob exposed, but that doesn't matter. Since she's naked, this is so totally in the same league as the rest of all these highly inappropriate, promiscuity glorifying photos on this here website. Go DA! Kudos for protecting our children and keeping filth well concealed behind iron wall of censorship! :w00t:  :boogie:

Sarcasm aside... On a day to day basis, this is not a big deal. Mature tag, whatever. I don't care. But I'd be lying if I said a part of me does NOT feel like taking whoever reported the drawing and smashing their face against the nearest wall. And, while their face is making acquaintance with that wall, I'd love to explain to them that a human body is beautiful and perfectly natural, that nudity does NOT equal pornography, and that their kids won't automatically become leg-spreading whores if they view art containing tasteful nudity, nor will they be scarred for life after seeing a 0,2" of a partially concealed female oreola.

Not because I give a shit about what ludicrous tag they pin on my art. But because people like that are part of a much larger problem that's making not only my life, but the lives of many, MANY people more difficult than they have to be. :fork:

P.S. Well, at least they didn't remove it. I would be dipping into my stash of C4 if that were the case. :evillaugh:

Ooooh, partial nipple exposure! It will be the end of society! Sigh, how come DA only seems interested in censoring real art pieces? I've seen far more sexually provocative pictures by talentless people without a mature tag and DA has done nothing about them. Your drawing is beautiful, I'd have no problem with letting my kids see it (if I had any), just as I would take them to art galleries despite the horrendous risk of seeing a nude.

:iconamoangelus:
Because you can see the dark skin of the nipple. It is mature content if you can see nipple or genitalia. Sorry, but that's what the mature content filter is for. And just because someone marks it as mature content doesn't mean they think it's going to corrupt the children, more that it's simply not suitable for a universal audience...or to be popping up when you're in say a library or office place. I can understand why it was reported, it's not a slur on you at all, it's just to make sure that someone doesn't get into serious trouble for admiring your work.

Instead of bitching about it, be thankful that someone pointed it out. Which would you rather have? People taking you off their watch lists because they're never quite suire whether they can safely view your art, or being told about it, putting a tag there and letting people happily keep you on their watch lists.

And just so we're clear, I didn't report you, but if I was viewing DA at the library as I used to when I had no phone line, I would loose all right to use the computers there, and as great as your art is, it's not worth that.

hm... due to this point of FAQ (FAQ #554: Is my deviation Mature Content?) your deviation should, unfortunately, have a mature content tag because of the nipple visible. and it doesn't matter whether it's a half of it or two of them - rules are the rules and I think they just did their job by tagging it.
and I don't think it's such a big deal to get so angry, there are worse things happening, such as deleting deviations by mistake (because someone reported them as an art theft) ;p and after all, it's only one image ;)

omg!a boobie...almost! cover it!!! reading your entry i feel a mixture of lulz and psycho anger:P I have a whole theory of what kind of person would waste time reporting images like yours, but better i stop here before i start to babble too much.
With all the blatant offensive porn and vulgar teenage "self-portraits" a la myspace...those morons would have actually tons of work trying to "purify" Da...but nooo, let's actually bother an almost boob:P
Btw i got one of my drawings tagged as mature (they didn't even notify me) in my drawing there is a major absence of boobage [link] ah the mysteries of Da

Quite with you, it's absurd. The irony is that everyone id directed to the policy guidelines, which are themselves pornographic, graphically describing as they do all the things that are forbidden! None more prurient than the censors!
:iconclarence-mcgraw:
Some poeple just don't get it. What is there to flag? A lude leaf? A naked flower? Really! Some people honestly need something better to do with their time.

Half a nipple!!!! But are YOU out of your mind?! Nudity is nudity, no matter how you call it, and it's totally inappropriate for a young audience, fair and square.

:/ Joke aside, I'm with you here. Hello, this is an art site, people! Yes, some content might be inappropriate for young eyes and flagged as such, but half a nipple, pictured in a non-suggestive manner? Please.

Someday, just for the fun of it, I'm really going to go to the Museum of Orsay here in Paris, and record myself telling the staff that they should have put a mature sign before Manet's paintings, because there's nudity and it's inappropriate for children.

Hmm - when I read some of the comments, I just wonder about the bigotry around; rules are rules and such things pfff - its never the rules, its always the interpretation making trouble...
But America is really a funny country  as if they wouldn't be real problems...

Just take it easy Maria - such parochial people aren't worth that ;p

My problem doesn't come from tasteful art and photography that *might* contain some nudity or hell, even more private areas, but the stuff that I constantly see on this site paraded around as 'art' when it is clear as day that it is just low brow pornography and/or an excuse for some girl or guy to show off their body parts. Nothing about the deviations I have reported would be construed as 'artistic' (think: poor lighting, bad quality, bad angle, etc.).

Other deviations I have reported include things that clearly violate the ToS, such as pornographic material (like drawings and the like that clearly are of a pornographic nature, depicting penetration, masturbation and the like). I report them because I am tired of seeing this so called 'art' site degraded into a low brow free porn browser.

Most of these images don't stay around for very long as there are others who report it and don't get me wrong, I am not a prude, I just hate seeing something that was once great degraded into something cheap and 'whoresome'.

Am I wrong to report the images that I have mentioned? No, I don't think so.. but knowing your art and the like, I can't honestly imagine anyone reporting your art, but not reporting the tons of barely clad anime girls or fetish photography that are on this site (not that those images and or/works of art are bad, I just see a vast difference between your art and oh say, fetish photography).

I complained about this subject not long ago, but it seems not enough people on DA care about preserving the community as one that appreciates art. Instead they care about rankings, who shows the most boob, and what new fad will come sweeping across the front page. Or, as you have pointed out, the blatant idiocy that is 'mistagging' and 'misreporting'. Sounds to me like someone was either a.) bored or b.) jealous. Or it could be a combination of both.

Like I said, if you had posted something that contained graphic imagery of two people engaged in intercourse, or a drawing of a guy engaged in a picturesque visage of pocket pool, then I would say that the person who reported the image was right. But, seeing as how that is not the case here, it sounds like you just ran across a wank.. or a prude. :S (Pardon my language).
